New production of Mozart’s ‘Idomeneo’ at Bayerische Staatsoper

Matthew Polenzani returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper on July 22, 24, & 26 to star as the title role of Mozart’s Idomeneo, in a new production by Antú Romero Nunes. Polenzani last performed the title role of king of Crete at the Metropolitan Opera, receiving rave reviews from critics, with Bachtrack praising:

“Versatile tenor Matthew Polenzani was an exemplary Idomeneo with his smooth, clear and lyrical voice and calm but authoritative stage presence. He easily negotiated the long lines of Mozart’s aria, … [and] Idomeneo’s big Act 2 aria “Fuor del mar” was thrilling and passionate.”

Constantinos Carydis conducts the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and a starry cast, including, Emily D’Angelo as Idamante, Olga Kulchynska as Ilia, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller as Elettra, Martin Mitterrutzner as Arbace, Caspar Singh as Oberpriester Poseidons, and Callum Thorpe as Die Stimme (Orakel).
