House debut at Teatro Real de Madrid in Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’

Matthew Polenzani makes his highly anticipated house debut at Teatro Real de Madrid this month as Alfredo in a special semi-staged concert version of Verdi’s La Traviata. On July 3, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 23, Mr. Polenzani will share the stage with a fantastic cast including Ekaterina Bakanova as Violetta, Luis Cansino as Germont, Sandra Ferrandez as Flora Bervoix, and Marifé Nogales as Annina, among others. Maestro Nicola Luisotti, a Verdian expert, conducts the Coro y Orquesta Titulares del Teatro Real.

Polenzani was initially slated to make his house debut this summer in Willy Decker’s intriguing production of La Traviata, but the global outbreak of COVID-19 forced the house to close. Now with limited capacity and a complex and meticulous protocol of health security, the Teatro Real reopens with this new stage concept by Willy Decker’s assistant, Leo Castaldi.
