Carmen at la Scala
Matthew Polenzani stars as Don José in Damiano Michieletto’s new production of Bizet’s Carmen at Teatro alla Scala. It will reduce local colour to a minimum in order to construct a bare and effective spectacle, focused on the ineluctable fate of the protagonists. Joining him on stage will be Stéphanie d’Oustrac as Carmen, Slávka Zámečníková as Micaëla, Nicolas Courjal as Escamillo, Sarah Dufresne as Frasquita, and Marine Chagnon as Mercédès. Myung-Whun Chung leads from the orchestra pit.
