La Bohème in Palermo
On November 16 and 17, Matthew Polenzani appears at Miami’s New World Center to sing On Wenlock Edge, Maurice Ravel’s setting of A.E. Housman’s lovelorn poems. The orchestra will be led by conductor Roberto Abbado.
He then travels to Palermo, where on December 13, 16 and 18 he returns to the role of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème, singing opposite Marina Rebeka as Mimì. The rest of the cast features Jessica Nuccio as Musetta, Vincenzo Taormina as Marcello, Marko Mimica as Colline and Christian Senn as Schaunard. Daniel Oren conducts.
The first performance of the run is scheduled for broadcast via Teatro Massimo TV.
Mr. Polenzani recently made his debut in this role at the Royal Opera House, and Opera Magazine declared him a “first-rate Rodolfo” who “combined the eagerness and spontaneity of the character with – once again – a true Latinate quality to the tone and phrasing that was continually rewarding”.
