Der Rosenkavalier and New Year’s Eve Gala at the Metropolitan Opera
From December 13 – January 4, Robert Carsen’s splendid staging of Der Rosenkavalier returns to the Metropolitan Opera for the first time since its blockbuster 2017 premiere, with Sir Simon Rattle on the podium to conduct Strauss’s glittering score. Matthew Polenzani reprises the short role of the Italian Singer, Camilla Nylund is the worldly Marschallin and Magdalena Kožená is her exuberant young lover, Octavian. Günther Groissböck also returns with his definitive take on the lascivious Baron Ochs, and Golda Schultz sings the innocent Sophie.
Additionally, on December 31, Matthew Polenzani takes part in the Metropolitan Opera New Year’s Eve Gala singing Act I of La Bohème, opposite Anna Netrebko. Conducted by Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and featuring an outstanding cast that also includes tenor Yusif Eyvazov, baritones Quinn Kelsey and Davide Luciano, and bass-baritones Evgeny Nikitin and Christian Van Horn, this will be an evening not to be missed. Each of the acts will be fully staged and costumed in the respective (and spectacular) Zeffirelli and McVicar productions.
